As a stay at home mom of 3, I’ve struggled with balance and running my business as a blogger.  There are some things I have incorporated lately that have really helped me be more productive and feel more balanced.

Scheduling everything

I literally have a schedule I prepare to time block every part of my day.  There are many times I don’t stick to it, with blogging however, I’m pretty consistent.  Typically my schedule looks the same for work.  I work for an hour in the morning.  At my toddler’s nap time I get 2 hours in. At the kid’s bedtime, I put in about 3 hours.

The rest of the day is dedicated to my kiddos and everything else I need to get done.  Occasionally, I’ll check an e-mail or reply on social media, but I try to stick to this to create some balance to my day.

Take time to Unplug

The thing about being a blogger is that you could promote, blog, pitch, and plan your entire day away… and burn out so easily.  Thanks to advice from others, I now have days I do the absolute minimal or nothing at all.  Even if it means my blog might suffer that day.  I am in this for the long haul, so I can’t live at 100% every single day.

I have to take time to unplug, turn notifications off of my phone, and just enjoy the beauty that is my life without the hustle.

Go work outside of your home

My go-to place is Starbucks.  I started incorporating this a few months ago and it has been life changing for me.  On the weekends, I take a few hours where I go to Starbucks and crank out some work.  It makes a really big difference when you leave your house.  My productivity has gone through the roof during that time.  Way more than being at home, even if my kids are asleep.

I get so much done in that time period and it helps me get organized and refreshed for the week ahead.  Starbucks has a really relaxing atmosphere and many times there are other people working there too, which helps keep me in that focused mentality.

Enjoying a coffee at the same time doesn’t hurt and gives me some extra energy.  There is only one issue.  If I get hungry at a coffee shop, I usually either leave to grab food and come back, or just head home.

Well that has changed. Now Starbucks has a great, healthy way for me to snack, get some protein, and still finish up my work without needing to leave.

I love meat and cheese boards.  They are my favorite and make me feel like I’m getting a special treat outside of the normal ham and cheese available at home.

I was so excited to learn that they now carry Creminelli Fine Meats™ Felino & Manchego Sliced Charcuterie Trays.

These packs are beautiful and feel like a little bit of “self- care” while I am getting work done.  I mean what is better than a delicious coffee with meat + cheese ?!  I love to have this for lunches at home through the week.  I pair it with grapes and some bread and it’s a fabulous meal.

This is perfect for while I am in “business mode” and satisfies my craving for protein quickly and easily.  These packs make food pairing so simple.  Mild salami ( aged 4-6 weeks) and a nutty Manchego cheese (made with sheep’s milk) imported from Spain are the perfect combination.  There are no synthetic nitrates and it’s made with milk without added rBST.

It’s thinly sliced and hand packed in recyclable trays for easy on-the-go enjoyment.  This is perfect for my busy schedule or if I just need something quick and filling when finishing up some work.

When stopping at Starbucks for your coffee, be sure to grab a Creminelli snack tray for an afternoon snack!

These are the life changers I have incorporated in my life to become more productive as a blogger and I’m sure you could use them in any profession.  I am always looking for new tips so share any that you have in the comments!

I enjoyed reading this post. As a fellow blogger (brand new within the past month) and stay at home mom, I completely understand the need to be unplugged! Sometimes, my smart phone is very distracting! Great suggestion about leaving the house and going to starbucks! I want to try that because it will force me to focus on my blog and not get distracted by the other household chores staring at me. I love Starbucks coffee so that’s a plus too!!

Reply

Yes! Exactly even if the house is quiet it brings a lot of distractions but, helps to be removed from it.

Getting out to a coffee shop to work is a breathe of fresh air. I will take just a notepad and enjoy my latte, writing down ideas for blog posts. Or jot down the plot for another children’s story for the blog. I don’t do it very often, but it I agree its a valuable practice.

Reply

Yes, it makes such a big difference when I do it!
