Education has always been important in our family.  My dad continued his education well through adulthood, obtaining a Master’s and Doctorate.  My mother also continued her education past college.  There was never a question whether my sister or I would go to college. We knew it would open more doors for us in this world and it definitely did.

Let me share a little about my story.  My husband and I met at a college in Grantham, PA.  It was a private school and the education was superior.  We both went to that school to obtain our bachelor’s degrees.

However, there was a little bump in the road that ended up being a tremendous blessing in our lives.  This blessing is our oldest son Josiah.  At the time, I didn’t think I could finish college while pregnant. I left while my husband continued.  I was 3 years in, so this was a hard choice.  However, I knew I would finish my education.  I had put in too much work to let it all go.

I came home and we pushed up our wedding to a little sooner than planned.  I worked for a little bit, but felt God had called me to be a stay at home mom to this child. I decided to take that path.  My husband finished his degree and started working right away.

Fast forward, a few years later we had our second child.  Blessing number two.  The years seemed to be getting by quickly. I wanted to just go ahead and complete my education because I wasn’t sure when God would call me back to the workforce.

With 2 little ones at home, I decided to finish my education online at another college.  This took discipline, but was totally manageable.  I used nap-time and bedtime to get all of my work done. It felt so fulfilling to do this for myself and I knew it would open up doors for wherever life would take me. I realized no time in life was going to be ideal, so…why not take that jump now!?  With 2 little ones at home I completed my bachelor’s degree in Business Marketing.

The really amazing part of all of this is my husband decided to further his education at the same time.  Some people thought that sounded insane and assumed our lives were super chaotic, but it was the biggest blessing to do this together.  Every night we would sit down together, computers on our laps and work.  No one was bored or waiting for the other one to finish. We felt like we were in it together.

It was such an empowering time, we had papers due at the same time and encouraged each other through this season.  My husband completed his MBA in International Business and I couldn’t be more proud.

A year ago, I decided to start a blog.  The information I learned from gaining a degree in Business Marketing was extremely helpful in starting my own business from home.  It has changed the way I view what I do.  My education helped me turn a hobby I love into a source of income.

If you are contemplating furthering your education but you don’t feel like the timing is right…don’t put your dreams on hold any longer.  No time is perfect.  You can do it now.  You don’t have to wait.
