Books That Changed My Life

I love to read but, barely find the time to do so and am not really into fiction even though I do enjoy a good “Twilight” series.  I really like books that help me with life and aren’t a bunch of “fluff”.  Books that give me real guidance or talk about the exact stage I’m at in life.

There are 6 books that I have re-read that have really had a big impact on my life.  If you are looking for a good book, check these out you will not regret it!!

The first book that has had a major impact on my life is “Dare to Discipline” by James Dobson.  This book truly is the answer to every tough parenting decision from ages 2-18.  It gives amazing practical ways to deal with tempter tantrums to peer pressure.

I have used so many of his tips on my kids and I’ve just been really amazed by how well they work! It shows the perfect balance between love and discipline and raising well-behaved kids that impact this world in a positive way! I was just telling a friend this week about it and, have had countless others say it’s helped them so much in their parenting journey!

The next book has had a major impact on me as a woman and being confident in the role I’ve chosen in life.  It helps women decide and be sure of the role they choose as a working or stay at home mom, and really being able to figure out God’s will for YOUR life! This book is called “The New Eve.”

I read this book years ago and it really changed my mentality but, also helped me be sure of what God has called me to do as well as being less judgmental of what other women have chosen.  This book covers everything from marriage, parenting, friendship, vocation and more!

One of the best books on marriage that I have ever read is “The 5 love languages” by Gary Chapman.  Every couple should seriously read this book.  Each person in a relationship usually excepts & expresses love very differently.

This book helps you identify what your spouses love language is whether (gifts, acts of service, etc.) and, eliminates a lot of possible fights!LOL I wish I would have read this in our first year of marriage.  It would of made life a lot easier! Every marriage needs this one.

“One thousand gifts” by Ann Voskamp is a book that helped me look at my life in all of it’s splendor.  If you are struggling with seeing your blessings through all life’s many trials, this book is for you!

This book helped shape my mind to see how many amazing things happen in every single day rather than focusing on the few things that aren’t.  This book will bless you in so many ways!

This is a book that I recently finished by Jen Hatmaker called “For the Love.”  This book is hilarious and  says perfectly how most woman feel about life, marriage, friendships and God.  She gives amazing advice with a lot of vulnerability on all of these things.  This book helped me let go of standards of perfection which I also write about in my post “How I’m letting go of perfection”.

This book released me from so many expectations I’ve had on myself as well as others.  I hope you will check it out! It’s a joy to read!

The final book that was life changing for my relationship with God is “Fervent” by Priscilla Shirer.  This book is beyond powerful.  I have read many christian books in my time, but the way that this book taught me about prayer and the power behind it was so eye opening.  Also, it gave me amazing applications for praying for my kids, husband, friends and myself.

My pray life will be forever changed because of this book! I know it will bless you as well!

These books have been incredibly life changing for me.  I know they will be a blessing to you in various areas of your life! I hope you’ll pick one to check out!

What are you guys reading? What is a life changing book that you have read lately?? Comment below.

Thanks for following!

The Five Love Languages is easily one of my favorite marriage / self help-y books. I love it! I have learned to connect with my husband in a different way and it’s been great since I read it.

I haven’t read the one on discipline before, but I am really intrigued by your description. My daughter is 16 months now, but I want to equip myself with tons of knowledge for when the inevitability of temper tantrums and arguments comes.

You might like the book “Boss Mom” by Dana Malstaff also! It’s so good 🙂

Hava,

Try Raising the Wholehearted Child by Sally Clarkson. It’s worth keeping open all the time! It was my “get my head back on straight ” book when I felt overwhelmed as a homeschool mom.

Thanks so much for the suggestion! Will check it out!
