I absolutely love to read. I am constantly reading a self-improvement book on marriage, parenting, faith or finances.

My husband and I realize the importance of continuously learning how to manage our finances in the best way possible.  We were a one income household for a long time, and now we have two incomes to manage. With boys that are into sports, music, and various activities, we need to have a plan for the money that comes in, and goes out of our home every month.

We are determined to be intentional with our spending and saving, and the books below have helped us do that.

We are always looking for that perfect balance between enjoying life right now (because we know tomorrow is not promised), and planning for the future or other financial obstacles that may arise.

I have seen people who hold on to every dime. They never seem to enjoy the life they are living today, but always looking towards the future.

I have also seen people who spend money they don’t have, constantly building up more debt just to “keep up with the Jones’s.”

My husband and I don’t want to live like either one of these people.  I believe wisdom is somewhere in the middle. There are some great books that have helped us pursue this balance, and get control of our finances.

This past year we have been able to pay off 100K in student loan debt and officially become debt-free. This is something that we felt was impossible in our lifetime, but with knowledge comes power and that is something we have invested in and continue to invest in.

After paying off this debt, we were tempted to build a new big home and make some other splurges but we chose to stay in our current home and make the updates we would look for in a new build.

Creating wealth, getting out of debt and living under your means is not a popular concept in America, but if you can learn more on these topics it is so empowering.

So, here are my Top 5 books that can transform your finances now, and in the future.

The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey

The Millionare Next Door by Thomas Stanley

The Financial Diet by Chelsea Fagan

The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham

Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

I hope these books will encourage you how they encouraged us. My best piece of advice. Take it one day at a time, and make the best choices you can for that day. Don’t get overwhelmed, but break it down into baby steps to reach your goals. You will get there!!
